The north country is expected to ring in the New Year with several more inches of snow.

The National Weather Service has issued winter weather advisories for Jefferson, Lewis, Oswego, St. Lawrence and Franklin counties and the western portions of Clinton and Essex counties slated to run until 7 to 8 a.m. Sunday.

The storm system is to bring an additional 4 to 7 inches of snow to Jefferson, Lewis and Oswego counties and 3 to 6 inches in the northern counties.

Winds are expected to come from the southwest, with gusts up to 25 or 30 mph.

The snow and winds could cause difficult travel conditions with snow-covered roads and periods of poor visibility.

However, based on the advisory designation, severe winter weather is not anticipated.
