Harrisville- Doris M. (Ganter) Kahn, a former resident of Lake George and Queensbury and recently of Harrisville, NY, died on December 21st at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Peg and Dick Kahn. She was born in Rockville Center, Long Island, NY on December 28th, 1923, the daughter of the late Rudolph J. and Ethel A. (Quinn) Ganter.
Doris was co-owner and manager along with her husband, Robert H. Kahn, of two resorts on Lake George known as Stepping Stones Resort. They purchased the first resort in the early 1950’s and sold the second resort in 1978. She was also a secretary at Gore Mountain Ski Resort for a number of years. During her retirement years she and her husband, Bob crossed the country 9 times in their various RVs as they never tired seeing the American countryside.
Her parents, her brother, Joseph and sister, Ethel all predeceased her. Her husband of 68 years, Robert (Bob) passed in 2009. Her son, Richard R. Kahn and his wife Peggy of Harrisville, NY; her three grandsons Christopher A. Kahn and his wife Lori of Amesbury, MA, Dr. David A. Kahn of Sparks, NV; and Benjamin A. Kahn of Albany, NY, survive Doris. Her great grandchildren Garrett Kahn and Mia Kahn of Amesbury, MA, Zan Beh, Elijah Kahn and Isaac Kahn of Reno and Sparks, Nevada also survive her as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Harrisville United Methodist Church on Wednesday, January 4th (10:30 am). Calling hours will be at the Regan Denny Stafford Funeral Home, 53 Quaker Road, Queensbury, the evening of January 6th from 4 to 6pm and the funeral will be at the funeral home at 10 am Saturday, January 7th with burial to follow at Pine View Cemetery, Quaker Road, Queensbury.
