Dora K. Tuggey
Funeral services for Dora K. (Barlow) Tuggey, age 98, formerly of Heuvelton and Lake Mary, FL will be held on Monday (Jan 2, 2017) at 3:00pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Rev. Linda Foody officiating. She will be buried at Hillcrest Cemetery in Heuvelton.
Calling hours will be held also on Monday from 12:00pm until the time of the service at the funeral home. Mrs. Tuggey passed away peacefully on Friday (Dec 30, 2016) at the home of her granddaughter Colleen and David Steele, surrounded by family.
Surviving are her sister and best friend Ruth Klaus of Lake Mary, FL and four sons Richard & Mary Barlow of Heuvelton, NY, Paul & Diane Barlow of Rome, NY, Jim (Kelly) & Linda Tuggey of Oneida, NY and Robert & Judy Tuggey of Brackney, PA along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husbands Cleveland Barlow and James Tuggey, along with a son James Barlow and two grandchildren Jill & Brian Barlow.
Dora was born on December 10, 1918 in Skerry, NY, a daughter of the late Emil & Rosalie (Wagner) Klaus. She graduated from Franklin Academy High School and continued her education at the Adirondack Business School. She later married Cleveland Barlow on May 6, 1938 in Brushton, NY. He predeceased her in 1944. She again found love and was later married to James A. Tuggey on June 24, 1951 in Heuvelton NY. He also predeceased her in 1968.
She lived in Skerry NY after her marriage to Cleveland, and later relocated back to Heuvelton after his death. She and her husband James operated a farm in Buckton, NY until 1959. In 1961 they moved to Elmira until 1968 following his death and again relocated back to Heuvelton and lived with her sister Ruth. From 1970 to 1982 she worked at Heuvelton Central School cafeteria as a monitor.
Dora worked as a financial secretary from 1969 to 1983 in Malone and was a member of the Heuvelton Methodist Church and Heuvelton United Methodists Women, the Florence B. Beattie # 349 Order of Easter Star, Grace Methodist Church in Lake Mary FL and was the Secretary Treasurer for Hillcrest Cemetery Association for 10 years.
She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and at their cottage at Lake Ozonia.
