BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — The Broome County Council of Churches celebrated it’s 75th anniversary on Sunday.
A service was held Sunday afternoon at the UCC First Congregational Church of Binghamton. Following the service, community members marched through downtown.
The theme for the anniversary is Building Bridges. Participants marched from East Clinton Street to the Clinton Street Bridge back to the Double Tree in Binghamton to celebrate the milestone.
The purpose of the march was to bring everyone together and symbolize helping all those in need.
“This is my opportunity to give back, I was born and raised in this community and this is what it’s all about,” Board of Directors Vice President of the Broome County Council of Churches George Cummings said. “This opportunity is to give back and to be part of something as wonderful as this.”
The Broome County Council of Churches is responsible for organizations such as CHOW and Faith in Action Volunteers.
The organization says CHOW will distribute more than 2 million pounds of food to children and families just this year.
