VESTAL (WBNG) — The Catholic Charities 16th Annual ‘Thanks for Giving Turkey Drive’ is underway in Vestal.

An RV is now sitting outside the Town Square Plaza Walmart in Vestal. That’s where people can donate turkeys and non perishable food items through Friday, Nov. 18.

3,500 turkeys were collected last year, this year’s goal is to collect 3,800.

“I think it’s important to know to that everyone assumes that we’re only helping out people in poverty,” Catholic Churches Manager of Emergency Services Mary Whitcomb said. “That is definitely something that were doing but we’re also helping single parents, working parents, two family homes, veterans, seniors, people who live on fixed budgets. There’s everybody, a little bit of everybody looking for a basket this year.”

The drive is part of Harvest For Hunger, which is a program of Catholic Charities that collects food and dollars to fight hunger during the holiday season.
