Donald Trump said he plans to keep the public in suspense about whether he’ll accept the results of November’s election.

At Wednesday’s debate, moderator Chris Wallace asked whether the GOP nominee will accept the result of the election. Trump refused to say yes.

“I’ll look at it at the time,” Trump said.

Wallace pushed Trump, saying the loser has always conceded at the end of a campaign for the good of the country.

“I will tell you at the time,” Trump said. “I’ll keep you in suspense.”

Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton called Trump’s rhetoric scary.

“That’s horrifying,” she said. “This is not the way our democracy works.”

In recent weeks, Trump has doubled down on rhetoric that the upcoming election will be rigged by Clinton and the media. At rallies he has warned of widespread voter fraud, despite little evidence that such fraud exists or could impact an election.

Prior to the debate, Trump’s running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, said he and Trump would “absolutely” accept the results of the election.
