BUFFALO N.Y. (WIVB) — As a scholar athlete, it’s no surprise that when Maryvale senior Andrew Crombie needs a break from a busy schedule, that break actually results in more work.”

“During my free time I’ll just go to the gym,” Crombie says.  “I’ll shoot jump shots, it just relieves stress and makes everything seem not as hard as it actually is.”

Crombie served as a captain on a basketball team that knocked off rivals Cheektowaga in this year’s playoffs.

“Me and four of my best friends grew up playing basketball together every single day, it’s that chemistry that helped us get as far as we did.”

Academically — Crombie serves as treasurer for the national honors society (and for his student government), leaving coach Mark Kensy quite impressed.

“Yes I was surprised when he told me his average,” Kensy says. “I think he said it was 104… Which is astounding.”

Before he heads off to college — likely on scholarship — Crombie will continue working outside school at Elderwood Assisted Living — doing dishes.

“I always try to stay as mature as I can be and I think that definitely helps, because being around kids in high school, you learn what not to do, kinda.”

“He’s easy,” Kensy says. “He’s gonna be a successful kid. I always tell the kids there’s nothing easy in life, there’s no magic formula, it’s hard work and the harder you work, the luckier you get.”
