Immaculata Academy to close its doors in June

HAMBURG, N.Y. (WIVB) — Parents were informed today that Immaculata Academy will close at the end of the school year.

“Due to the changing realities within the congregation, a school ministry is no longer a viable way for the congregation to further its mission and charisma. All of our resources – time, energy, personnel, and fiscal have become substantially more limited,” a portion of the letter reads.

A press release issued by the school states that 60 years ago, there were more than 500 Sisters in the FSSJ congregation. Today, only 60 remain with a median age of 80. Enrollment is currently at only 180 students and only one Sister remains on staff.

News 4 will continue to update this story as more information is available.
